PEACE COLIN 2023–2024:
India-Colombia Youth Exchange

Empowering the next generation of peacebuilders across borders.

PEACE COLIN was a transformative 10-month youth exchange between India and Colombia, hosted by Youth for Peace International and Rural Development Society (India) and Somos CaPAZes (Colombia). Funded by the Norwegian Agency for Exchange Cooperation (NOREC), the program exchanged two fellows from each country to immerse in grassroots peace initiatives. Through intensive preparatory training, language immersion, ongoing mentoring, and field visits to conflict-affected communities, fellows gained hands-on expertise in conflict transformation, inclusion, and social justice. They co-created educational content, supported host programs, and returned home to amplify these skills in their own organizations—fostering lasting cross-cultural ties.

FELLOW’S JOURNEY: From Exchange to Impact

Fellows didn’t just observe—they lived the work:

  • Colombian fellows in India: Explored tribal regions, Manipur’s ethnic tensions, and urban diversity in Bangalore and Kerala.
  • Indian fellows in Colombia: Engaged indigenous communities, post-conflict zones, and vibrant youth networks in cities and rural areas.

This bidirectional exchange built empathy, adaptability, and practical skills like workshop facilitation and community storytelling.

E-Learning Modules

Free Digital Peace Toolkit

Fellows designed a multilingual, self-paced course in English, Hindi, and Spanish, featuring 60+ micro-learning assets:

  • Short YouTube videos unpacking inner peace and non-violence.
  • Instagram Reels for quick conflict resolution tips.
  • Recorded live sessions drawing from real India-Colombia stories.

Hosted online and promoted via social media, these tools target youth in remote or marginalized areas, offering practical dialogue, leadership, and inclusion skills. The pilot in India drew 100+ participants in its first cohort—proving digital peace education’s reach.

Community Engagement

Fellows co-led peacebuilding across diverse groups—indigenous youth, LGBTQI+ communities, religious minorities, tribal groups, and conflict survivors:

  • India: Four conflict transformation trainings in Manipur; national workshops in Kerala and Bangalore.
  • Colombia: 10+ in-person sessions using Somos CaPAZes’ curriculum.

They documented efforts through video interviews, contributed to India’s Youth Agenda Report 2024, and amplified voices at global events like COP16. This blend of action, advocacy, and storytelling strengthened local initiatives and fellows’ expertise in facilitation and collaboration.

Measurable Outcomes and Legacy

Through our e-learning pilot, we reached over 100 young people, with hundreds more engaged through in-person workshops. Fellows have gone on to lead programmes in their home countries, transferring skills within their own communities. The impact continues to ripple outward as digital modules scale and participant stories inspire new cohorts to take action.

PEACE COLIN proves youth exchanges can drive sustainable peace—from local dialogues to global platforms.
