Youth for Peace International has developed a series of 10+ bite-sized e-learning modules on peace education and conflict transformation, available in Hindi and English on YouTube. These modules are designed for young people with limited internet access, offering practical tools to understand, analyze, and transform conflict in their own communities.

This self-paced online course introduces young people to the foundations of peace education and conflict transformation, using real stories and examples from communities in India and Colombia. Through short videos and interactive prompts, learners explore inner peace, communication in conflict, prejudice and inclusion, and practical tools to address conflicts at personal, interpersonal, and community levels.​

What You’ll Learn

By the end of the course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain basic concepts of peace, conflict, and violence in everyday language.
  • Analyze a conflict using simple tools (actors, needs, power, and context).
  • Identify and challenge prejudice, discrimination, and hate speech in their surroundings.​​
  • Use non-violent communication skills to manage interpersonal tensions.​​
  • Apply conflict transformation approaches to design small, youth-led initiatives in their communities.​

Themes you’ll explore:

Identity

Through this module, the participant will learn about the concept of identity, the process of its formation, complex nature, characteristics and the role it plays in informing the conflict and violence levels in one’s society.

Self-Awareness

Through this module, the learner will cultivate and practise radical self awareness with respect to the various roles they play in conflict situations, their biases, stereotypes and prejudices and how they perpetuate their cycle of socialisation.

Gender

Through this module, the participant will be able to learn about gender norms, their consequences, factors leading to and ways to mitigate gender based violence, and finally, gain an in-depth understanding of the ‘third gender’ along with the ways to empower them.

Communication in Conflict

This module will equip the participants with various tools and skills to use effective, mindful and non-violent expression and practise active listening. They will learn about the working of perceptions, perspectives and narratives along with the ways to counter hate speech.

Conflict and Violence

This module will provide the participants an in-depth understanding of the concepts of conflict and violence, their relationship with each other and the ways to prevent, manage and resolve them. Participants will also learn about various conflict models and the cycle of hate.

The Basics of Peacebuilding

Through this module, the participants will get an overview of the peacebuilding field as well as some effective peacebuilding practices and tools.

How to use this course

Learn alone or with your community

  • Individual learners can follow the modules at their own pace and apply reflection questions in their daily lives.
  • Youth groups, student clubs, and grassroots organizations can use the videos as session openers, followed by discussions or community activities.
  • Facilitators and teachers can integrate the modules into existing curricula on civic education, social studies, human rights, or life skills.
